So here is another shot from my trip to London in September. I spent a whole day at the Natural History Musem and the Victoria & Albert Museum, shooting a bunch of photos that I eventually will get to process. I really like the ones from Natural History Museum – I have a great feeling about them. They’re all shot hand-held, so post-processing is a little bit more troublesmoe than it needs to be.. Here’s one from the Natural History Museum. It’s an awesome place!

Here’s the inside of the Notre Dame in Paris (of course only a small part of it). I brought my tripod with me, and got to shoot some brackets before being told to stop by one of the security guards. I can’t really figure out why tripod is such a no-no in places like this. It really bugs me, because I can’t really seem to find a good explanation. What’s the reason for this universal tripod-ban?

Christmas is here. I’m having a great time with my family. I wish you a merry Christmas, and I hope you get to do some shooting as well as celebrating!

Untitled but cool

I didn’t come up with a good name for this photo. I just think it came out pretty cool! I shot this at the waste-to-energy plant (where I’ve shot several photos, see the latest one here) in Kristiansand. I like how the yellow stuff came out. What do you think?

Beginner DSLR

I have a couple of friends who have asked me for my advice on which beginner-DSLR to get. I don’t know about Nikon and what numbers/model names they use, but I know Canon has the 550D. I used to use the 450D and was very happy with it — now, here’s the deal: Does anyone here have anything good/bad to say about the 550D? I’ve never tried it, but if it’s as good (or probably better) than the 450D – then it’s a go. And PS – has anyone here tried both the 500D and the 550D? What’s the biggest differences between the two? Your help is very much appreciated

Scenic Motel

Here’s the aptly named Scenic Motel. I don’t remember exactly where this ‘scenic’ motel is located, but it might be in Townsend, TN. We stayed there for a night, and this was shot early, early in the morning. October mornings are brilliant!

There’s a new app for that phone that has become relatively popular.
This is Paris

OK — what’s possibly more French than this? One thing that I really dug about Paris was that the light was awesome all day long. The clouds were perfect, always hanging there to soften the light. It made me happy

5 Tools for post-processing

To create the images on this blog, I use a lot of tools in addition to actually ‘take the photo’. Most of my images here are so-called HDR images, which means they’re High Dynamic Range images. I have a collection of software on my Mac that I love, and some that I use more than others. Here’s my top 5-list:

Photomatix Pro
A necessity for me, as this is what I use to merge my different exposures (create the HDR) and tonemap the image to my liking. A must-have. Get it here.

Adobe Photoshop
Also a necessity. In Photoshop, I touch up the tonemapped image, adjust saturation, levels, curves and so on. It’s definitely a must-have. Get it here.

onOne PhotoTools
My favourite piece of Photoshop-plugin for doing cool and fun stuff to my photos. The photo below was touched heavily by onOne PhotoTools. I highly recommend it. Get it here.

Topaz Adjust
A very effective plugin that I use when I want something to really pop. It’s a very powerful tool! Get it here.

Imagenomic Noiseware
Noise can be a problem, but this Photoshop-plugin deals with it! Get it here.

Gettysburg Sunrise

Getting up early enough to catch the sunrise can be a drag, but when you’re out there shooting, it just feels gooood. It’s a great way to kick-start the day! This was shot in Gettysburg, PA just as the sun threw its rays over the hilltop.

What’s your workflow like? I’m curious because mine’s changing all the time. At the moment, I really only take the time to Photoshop-process HDRs. The rest of my photos are just straight-out-of-camera photos that go into iPhoto in their respective albums. What do you do to your “standard” photos (family, friends, snaps etc.)?

That Tower at night

The Eiffel Tower is cool. It’s cool during in the daytime and it’s awesome at night. I believe it’s impossible to get lost in Paris as you can always see the tower from somewhere, and then make out what direction you need to walk. Very convenient, indeed.

Gear I bring and use

I just got back from a 4 day trip to Paris (which was amazing), and I thought I’d tell you a little about what kind of gear I bring for events like short trips to a cool place.
Most importantly, there’s the camera body. I carry the 5d ii in my hand or slung around my shoulder, having it ready at all times. I pretty much always keep the 50mm f/1.4 lens on the body, as it’s very light and very convenient for grabbing quick shots. I keep my 17-40mm f/4 in my Shootsac (an awesome lens bag that doesn’t scream expensive gear), where I also keep my 85mm f/1.8 and Promote Control. I also carry my tripod with me at all times, and I’m very glad I got a tripod made out of carbon fibre…
Whenever I come across something I’d like to bracket, I take my time and set up carefully – swap lenses and all that. When the brackets are on my memory card, I put the 50mm back on and walk away.
This package works for me, and during my trip to Paris I didn’t miss one shot! What do you bring when you go away for a couple of days?

Christmas in Paris

The Notre Dame is simply amazing. It took them 200 years to build this thing!! That’s a long time! I wonder how long it would take to build a place like this today? I walked around the cathedral a couple of times after the sun had set, and set up my tripod to try and capture some of its beauty. What do you think?
